Fall is an ideal time of the year to enjoy a beer and clink steins with friends in an authentic beer garden. There are a few real beer gardens in the city, such as the famed Zilker Brewing and Jester King Brewery, but there are also a tonne of incredible patios that serve as beer gardens in their own right. Additionally, there are plenty of breweries with fantastic outdoor areas, like Meanwhile Brewing and Austin Beerworks. We’ve singled out top 10 beer places in Texas to enjoy in the state’s capital. Explore the local Austin breweries with outdoor patios worth visiting in this guide.

Pinthouse pizza

Location: 4729 Burnet Road, Austin, Texas 78756

This mini-chain of brewery-pizzerias has become a favorite for beer aficionados and families alike. The place appeals to both groups with its convivial, communal ambiance and comfort food menu of soft pretzels, pizza, nachos, and (importantly) award-winning brews. The widely available Electric Jellyfish IPA, a foggy New England-style beer that is served all across Austin, is the brewery's most well-known product. Seasonally, a broad variety of other excellent IPAs rotate off the tap wall; the Magical Pils and Bearded Seal Stout are also among the best in class. It's also important to note that, despite the large number of patrons, the bar service is consistently prompt and courteous. Online orders for takeaway are accepted, and both indoor and outdoor dine-in options are available.

zilker-brewing

Zilker Brewing

Location: 1701 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78702

The East Sixth brewery has established itself as a mainstay in East Austin by brewing popular Texas beers, most of which are lighter varieties, and canning a good number of them for consumption at picnics and backyards. Due to its central location, the taproom's interior is quite cramped, but there's a large terrace to relax on where you can have sandwiches made with fried chicken (and tempeh) and tots from the Spicy Boys food truck. The brand's light and refreshing design will appeal to a wide range of preferences, and the personnel is helpful. Sample the Parks and Rec pale and the excellent rice lager made in partnership with Spicy Boys, called Icy Boys. Dine-in spaces are both indoors and outdoors, and orders for takeaway can be placed online.

Lazarus Brewing Company

Location: 1902 E 6th St (Chicon), Austin, TX 78702

Sophisticated drinkers love this nicer taproom in East Austin. The bar room has an extremely formal vibe, similar to that of an old Chicago pub that has been tucked onto East Sixth. This impression is further enhanced by the presence of religious imagery, as a Montana pastor co-founded the brewery in Austin. The list is dominated by lagers and Pilsners, demonstrating a respect for Austin's climate as well as the craft of doing the simple things well. This place is a must-visit spot for anyone who wants to hang out all day because of its excellent coffee program and clever taco and torta menu.

Late last year, Lazarus opened a second location on Airport Boulevard in the former I Luv Video space. It features 15 taps, a menu that specialises in Mexican food, plus wine and coffee options. Both indoor and outdoor dine-in settings are available and takeaway orders can be placed online.

hold-out-brewing

Hold Out Brewing

Location: 1208 W 4th St, Austin, TX 78703

The brewery from the Better Half/Brew & Brew/Little Brother/Bummer Burrito teams, located near Clarksville, thrives because it understands contemporary Austin. If the brewery were an indie band, it would be Pavement. The beer lineup is inventive and forward-thinking, but its overall social media presence and atmosphere hint at a lazy mentality at its core. There are some vegetarian selections, such as chana masala Frito pise, but the menu mostly appeals to those with a taste for pub cuisine, including wings, fried chicken sandwiches and smash burgers.

When it comes to beer, the Dog Days Fresh Hop IPA series is a must-try, and the House Beer is a guaranteed porch pounder. There’s a large patio for social groups ideal as a pre-game location before downtown events. Dine-in spaces are both indoors and outdoors, and orders for takeaway can be placed online.

Jester King Brewery

Location: 13005 Fitzhugh Rd, Austin, TX 78736

It seems that the Hill Country brewery has finished its transformation from cult favourite to a popular meeting place. This Austin brewery, which had only produced farmhouse and wild beers, now serves a variety of “clean” lager and pilsner options in addition to carefully chosen wines and ciders. The new JK Quik Kitchen food truck serves pub dishes like burgers and fries, and the kitchen side still includes the standard range of baked goods and pizzas. On the property are two roaming cats, a bunny, and a good number of goats along with the walking pathways. Here both indoor and outdoor dine-in settings are available and takeaway orders can be placed online.

austin-beerworks

Austin Beerworks

Location: 3009 Industrial Ter, Austin, TX 78758

This North Burnet brewery has grown steadily over the years mostly due to one very important factor – knowing what Central Texas beer lovers want. Though Austin Beerworks produces a wide variety of Texas beers, its major focus is on flavourful warm weather beers, which is best exemplified by their traditional Pearl Snap German pils and their hilariously crushable Peacemaker ale, which comes in 99-can packs. The taproom features a spacious seating area that is busy most weekends, several experimental small batch taps, and a workhorse food truck (Can-Tina) that serves burgers, nachos, salads, and tacos.

Recently, the brewery opened a second site in northwest Austin, complete with a small dog park, wine and cider selections, and a playground for kids. This location is a genuine Austin icon. Both indoor and outdoor dine-in settings are available; takeaway orders can be placed online.

ABGB

Location: 1305 W Oltorf St ('Oltorf and the tracks'), Austin, TX 78704

Perhaps one the most decorated breweries in Austin, Galindo has won numerous gold medals at the Great American Beer Festival, including one for best big brewpub of the year. Its success can be attributed to its unwavering concentration on the often-underappreciated pilsner and helles styles. The entire idea — a sizable beer garden, a great venue with well-known performers several times a week, and an amazing selection of delicious but crushable lighter beers — fits South Austin flawlessly. There's also a variety of finger food options, such as sandwiches, pizzas, and wings. Possibly the ultimate beer garden in Austin, perfect for gatherings. Both indoor and outdoor dine-in settings are accessible, as well as keg orders.

meanwhile

Meanwhile Brewing

Location: 3901 Promontory Point Dr, Austin, TX 78744

The Austin brewery's enormous area and industrial, warehouse-filled McKinney neighbourhood look leave patrons clueless about what's around the corner. There's a sophisticated taproom, a big stage, a soccer pitch and what may be the biggest brewery patio space in Austin city limits. With tacos from Pueblo Viejo, barbecue from the renowned Distant Relatives, pizza from Side Eyed Pie, and ice cream from Besame, the food trucks are excellent. As for beer, there are several options available on the 15+ tap list, but the two standout selections are the German Style Pilsner and the Secret Beach San Diego IPA. While it might be difficult to get a table on the weekends, this is a terrific spot for family brewery visits or group outings.

Hi Sign Brewing

Location: 730 Shady Lane, TX 78702

Last year, Hi Sign relocated to a more convenient location in Govalle, leaving its dilapidated warehouse beside the airport. Because the beers are tailored to Austin's warm climate, drinkers can enjoy dank IPAs, imperial stouts, and lighter flavours. The large, contemporary taproom has pleasant service, and staff members are ready to recommend favorites or provide a little sample to help customers make a decision. For bigger gatherings, there's also a sizable outdoor space furnished with picnic tables as well as food trucks Norte ATX and Ranch Hand. Look for frequent comedy and trivia nights on the events calendar. There are dining places both outside and indoors.

oddwoodales

Oddwood Brewing

Location: 3108 Manor Rd, Austin, TX 78723

Oddwood's Texas craft beer is intelligent and serious, but the MLK brewery has a laid-back, throwback vibe thanks to the VHS tapes and indie rock soundtrack. Though the tap list leans heavily towards IPAs and hoppier lagers most weeks, it's evident that the brewers like providing some sours. Indulge in all those beers with a wide selection of pizzas, salads, and stromboli, compliments of the excellent Egyptian barbecue food truck KG BBQ. There's a decent wine list here as well for those who don't drink beer. This place has a free-play arcade area with NBA Jam, Ms. Pac Man, and other games for the kids and adults alike. For events like horror movie night and live comedy, check out the website. Both indoor and outdoor dine-in settings are available; takeaway orders can be placed online.

For years, Austin has been a true craft beer lover, but that devotion is about to be put to the test. Over the past 15 years, the number of breweries in the metro region has expanded from roughly six to over seventy due to a combination of factors including enormous population expansion and state legislative amendments regarding taprooms.
